University Police seek shooting suspect Published 9:40pm Friday, April 16, 2010

Police continue to investigate a shooting that took place behind a dorm on the campus of Troy University late Thursday where no injuries were reported.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., the Troy University Police Department and the Troy City Police responded to a report of shots fired behind Alumni Hall.

“Police received a call that there were shots fired,” said Dean of Student Services Herbert Reeves.

Reeves said that at least one witness estimated hearing three shots, but there is currently no other evidence that would indicate how many shots were actually fired.

Reeves said eyewitness accounts indicated the shooting was in connection with an altercation.

“We were able to determine there was a fight before the shooting occurred,” Reeves said.

After the physical altercation and the ensuing shooting, witnesses reported seeing various subjects fleeing the vicinity.

“Witnesses have said they saw a black male dressed in all black running away from the scene toward Stewart Dining Hall to a silver Nissan Altima,” Reeves said.

Reeves also mentioned other witnesses reported seeing three males, all in black shirts, running toward University Boulevard.

Authorities were alerted to be on the lookout for the silver Altima, but it still had not been located.

Reeves said he expected to find out more regarding the shooting after a series of interviews with eyewitnesses.

Police and officials believe there is no continued threat and classes were resumed as normal Friday morning.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact the UPD (334-670-3215) or TPD (334-566-0500). The TPD also operates the Secret Witness Line at 334-566-5555.
