Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Selected World's Best Airport

Istanbul - Not only in Turkey but also in the World aviation industry's rising star; Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is selected ''World's Best Airport'' by the World Low Cost Airlines Congress.

SGIA's Executive Vice president, Server Aydın, received the award on the gala night of the World Low Cost Airlines Congress, held between September 28 and 30 in London.

SGIA was included in a group of 20 candidates in the first round and passed to the second round after a vote by a jury, which consisted of 38 aviation firms. At the second stage, number of airports fell to 6. SGIA reached the top award by passing airports of Budapest, Bremen, Jacksonville, East Midlands, Edinburgh and Copenhagen in number of votes.

SGIA CEO Gökhan Buğday said,''We are proud to receive the World's Best Airport award after competing with airports such as Budapest, Copenhagen, Edinburgh. I would like to thank the world's leading airlines, industry representatives here at the congress. Recently, we have received many awards. Those awards reflect our success but apart from that those awards encourage us to increase our target".
Buğday mentioned future goals of SGIA, '' We are offering  privileges to the terminal passengers and airlines. Currently, we welcome a monthly average of 1 million passengers. 6.6 million passengers passed from our terminal in 2009, the number of passengers will reach 11 million in 2010'.
