Nuri Sahin has conceded that Turkey thoroughly deserved their 3-0 defeat against Germany in Euro 2012 qualifying on Friday evening.
One of a number of Turkish squad who have ties with Germany – Sahin was born in the country and turns out for Borussia Dortmund – he was disappointed that collectively and personally there was not more resistance shown.
“After conceding the first goal, we suffered,” he lamented to the media. “The Germans have played with fire, because at one point we were in position to get back into the encounter with the great chance for Halil Altintop.
“We tried to do what we had planned and we wanted to win, but victory in Germany is completely deserved.
“Personally, I'm not happy with my game; I did not play as I am able to with Dortmund.”
Guus Hiddink’s men are now third in Group A, having picked up six points in their opening three matches. Austria, whom they have yet to meet, and die Mannschaft both still boast 100 per cent records.
